Wyk auf Föhr

A night is usually cheapest in November (about 150 €) and most expensive in August (about 190 €). It is usually warmest in August, at about 19 °C during the day.

Wyk is the main town of Föhr, an island in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. Föhr covers about 83 square kilometres and is known as the green island because it lies sheltered from the wind behind Sylt and Amrum. From Wyk, a 15-kilometre sandy beach runs along the south coast to the middle of the west coast.

Wyk has been a seaside resort since 1819, and the Danish king Christian VIII spent his summers here from 1842 to 1847. The Sandwall promenade looks out over the Halligen islets. The new Mittelbrücke pier, opened in 2024, has a bathing access that can also be used by wheelchair. The Frisian Museum, opened in 1908, is entered through a gate of whale bones and shows the history of the island. St Nicholas' Church in the Boldixum district dates from the 13th century.

Two more medieval churches stand in Nieblum and Süderende. In their churchyards, "speaking gravestones" tell whole life stories. The Museum Kunst der Westküste in Alkersum shows art on the theme of sea and coast. Ferries connect Wyk with Dagebüll and Amrum regardless of the tide, and in summer boats run to the Halligen.
