Kühlungsborn

A night is usually cheapest in November (about 125 €) and most expensive in July (about 180 €). It is usually warmest in July, at about 22 °C during the day.

Kühlungsborn lies on the Bay of Mecklenburg, about 25 kilometres west of Rostock. The town was formed in 1938 from the seaside resorts of Arendsee and Brunshaupten. Its name combines the wooded Kühlung ridge to the south with Born, an old word for spring. The sandy beach is about six kilometres long, with a promenade of just over three kilometres behind it.

Villas in the typical seaside resort style line the Ostseeallee, built from 1904 onwards. The pier in Kühlungsborn-Ost is 240 metres long. Close by stands an East German border watchtower from 1972, one of two of its type that survive on the coast. Visitors can climb it, and a small museum tells of escape attempts across the Baltic Sea. St John's Church dates from the 13th century.

The Molli narrow-gauge steam railway runs via Heiligendamm to Bad Doberan in about 40 minutes, stopping at three stations in Kühlungsborn. To the south, the Kühlung offers woodland and viewpoints.
