The municipality of Heringsdorf lies on the island of Usedom on the Baltic Sea and includes the three seaside resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin, together also known as the Imperial Spas. Ahlbeck borders Poland. Each of the three resorts has a pier: the one in Ahlbeck is the oldest in Germany, the one in Heringsdorf is 508 metres long.In Heringsdorf stands the Kirche im Walde, a church in the historicist style. The Usedom treetop walk runs 1,350 metres through the Heringsdorf forest at crown height. In Bansin, a small tropical zoo shows animals from warm countries, and in Heringsdorf the art pavilion has held exhibitions since 1970.
Behind the resorts lie forest and lakes, such as the Mümmelkensee north-west of Bansin and the Gothensee and Thurbruch nature reserve. In Ahlbeck, the Zirowberg rises 58 metres, with a lookout tower on top.
