Heiligenhafen

A night is usually cheapest in November (about 100 €) and most expensive in July (about 125 €). It is usually warmest in August, at about 20 °C during the day.

Heiligenhafen lies on the Baltic Sea at the eastern tip of the Wagrien peninsula, about nine kilometres west of the Fehmarn Sound Bridge. In front of the old town lies the Binnensee, a bay with an opening to the Baltic. The spit formed by Steinwarder and Graswarder separates it from the open sea. West of the town runs a stretch of cliff coast.

Heiligenhafen held town rights by 1305 at the latest. The old town has a town church that is more than 750 years old and, on the market square, the town hall from 1882. The pier is 435 metres long. Fishing boats moor in the harbour, alongside about 1,000 berths for leisure craft.

The Graswarder is a spit about 2.5 kilometres long and a nature reserve where pied avocets and oystercatchers, among others, breed. The NABU nature conservation society runs a centre there with a 14-metre observation tower. Fifteen listed beach villas on the Graswarder were built from around 1900 onwards.
